Always one of the highlights of the festival, this vibrant, colourful and costumed parade winds its way through the heart of the festival – the culmination of the dance and percussion workshops held over the festival weekend. Now in its 6th year, this procession is hard to miss – the sights, sounds and sheer energy of the drummers and dancers draws you to follow in its wake through the town centre. The infectious music and choreography contains themes that reflect the common roots found in Afrobrazilian & Afrocuban music and the beat just gets to your feet and puts a smile on your face – You WILL be dancing in the street.

The Parade is organized by One Voice Music, set up to promote the teaching and performance of Afrobrazilian and Afrocuban percussion and dance in the UK. If you’re reading this on Sunday afternoon then it’s too late to be a part of the Parade, but if you’re reading this in advance and you want to get involved then full information on the weekend workshops are to be found at www.ovm.co.uk (nb there is a charge). Go on – it’s great fun!

The Parade begins opposite the Town Hall at 1.45 pm and goes down Brand St to the Market Square, then across the river opposite the Willow Stage for a static performance at 3.00pm. The parade then moves onto Portmill Lane Stage at around 4 pm before finishing back on the Bancroft/ High Street junction.
