EASY STAR ALL STARS
The Easy Star All-Stars are a collective family of some of the finest reggae musicians in the New York area, featuring a rotating cast drawn from a pool of players meaning that every show has its own nuances and its own life. Famous for the album Dub Side of the Moon, a complete reggae re-vision of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and more latterly Radiodread, the reggae version of Radiohead's OK Computer the Easy Star All Stars are one of the highlights of the festival.
'Radiodread' draws out the universal messages in Radiohead's masterpiece, which speaks to the need to create spiritual human interactions in the face of cold technology and soul-crushing routine. As Easy Star's Lem Oppenheimer attests, "Reggae music, born in opposition to colonial oppression, conveys hope in the bleakest moments. Likewise, there is humour and hope in the voices of 'OK Computer's' lyrics and that's where we found the deepest connections with the reggae spirit."
What does that mean? Well, putting it bluntly the Easy Star All Stars are simply a great reggae collective from New York who have played all over the world and who’ll be playing vibrant music perfect for a summer Saturday night. Don’t miss them.
